Lormero lives in the town of Cavaillon, in the South Department of Haiti. He has had a store for 4 years that sells Digicel cellular phone, SIM card, phone recharge card and there is a Western Union inside. He has one employee in his store. He has recently decided to start selling EarthSpark clean energy products to expand his current business and hopefully be able to employ more staff.
With a Kiva loan, Lormero will be set up with a “Business in a Bag”, a kit containing a personalized mix of small-scale clean energy products, marketing materials and training on energy literacy, SMS tracking of sales, and basic business skills to launch his business. For his first inventory he will purchase solar desk lamps and charcoal-efficient cookstoves.
About EarthSpark International
EarthSpark International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating energy poverty in Haiti by expanding access to clean and efficient energy products and services for lower-income, underserved homes and businesses. EarthSpark supports local clean energy entrepreneurs in selling products ranging from solar energy systems to portable lanterns to improved cookstoves. EarthSpark has also built and is expanding Haiti's first pre-pay microgrid which delivers electricity to homes and businesses via poles and wires at a village scale.
This Kiva loan will be used to provide borrowers with needed goods or services, as opposed to cash or financial credit.
