Living in a rural village of the Bankan district of Pursat province, Sotheary is a 30-year-old widowed mother of three children. All of the children are still dependent on her and in school. Sotheary is a teacher and she also farms rice to supplement her income. She has been in this business for almost 15 years, earning about 27,000 KHR per day.
Sotheary has been with VisionFund for one cycle and completely paid back the past loan which has helped her to improve her livelihood. Now she is requesting a loan of 2,500,000 KHR to buy fertilizers for her farmland. She hopes to grow more healthy crops and earn more income to make a better living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
