Ly, a mother in her early 50s, is a local farmer from Kampong Cham province where her residential area is. She has 10 children, two of whom still rely on her as they are in school. She deals with daily cost of living via two hectares of rice cropping, four hectares of cassava farming, and two and half hectares of rubber tree farming. This is the business that she has occupied for ages.
Ly is a first time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She is now taking out a loan in order to lease additional farmland for planting more cassava and to buy potash for her crops. She hopes this purchase will enable her to expand her agribusiness larger than before and grow fruitful crops with a good income in return.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
