The group called “El Ceibo” has been working with Pro-Mujer for the last several years, finishing their tenth cycle. Currently it has 13 active associates who have shown to be a well organized group as it relates to their loan quotas. Within the group, the majority are married with an average of 6 children. They feel in need to look for additional sources of income since the necessities of their children are always increasing.

There are various businesses within the organization such as sales of food, dairy products, and cereals; the main activity, however, is the making of wool skirts (polleras) and other clothing for the local women (typical clothing used in the altiplano region). They sell their clothing at the 16th of July fair, which only allows them to sell twice a week, for this reason they need a loan to rent store space where they can offer their clothing all the days of the week. This will enable them to generate more income and continue to maintain the well being of their children.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
