Aged 33 and a citizen of Kampong Cham province, Samen is a parent of five children who strives to earn a living via one hectare of cassava farming and working for others for a fee. From her current business, she is able to earn up to 12,500 KHR per day.
Samen has never been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) before. Now, she is applying for a new loan in order to buy fertilizer, cassava seedlings, and to pay for labor fees. She believes that she can grow her cassava in a timely manner and gain a good yield with a high selling price.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
