Lizette is a member of the communal bank Mujeres Decididas e Independientes [Determined and Independent Women]. She is 23 years old, unmarried, and living with her parents. Lizette worked at a friend's laundry service for some time, where she learned all about this kind of business and saw that it was profitable. Four years ago, she decided to open her own laundry; during this time, she has gained many clients who come to her laundry for her washing services.

With the money from this loan, she will be able to purchase a new washing machine; she will also be able to get some technical maintenance done on the machines that she already has. In the future, she would like to open additional locations for her business. Lizette is grateful to EDAPROSPO for her loan because she feels it is an opportunity for progress, and to Kiva's investors who put their trust in people like her and her communal bank.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
