Josephine, of Camanga, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur, is 39 years old and married. She has five children. To make a living, she owns and manages a farm, growing calamansi and other fruits. (Calamansi is a citrus fruit native to the Philippines.) She sells the produce of the land at a market in town, and she earns income for the basic needs of the family.
She has borrowed the amount of 16,000 PHP from GDMPC, which she had joined in 2001. She will use the loan to buy fertilizer, such as manure. She plans to cultivate the adjacent farm, in order to gain more profit for the better future of her family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
