A loan of $350 helped to buy more fresh fish to resell.

Oretha's story

Oretha, a 40-year-old business woman from Liberia, is married and has seven children between the ages of 25 and 12. Only three are currently attending school, and they all live at home. Oretha completed grade 12 before starting her business. She describes herself as a hardworking woman.

Oretha lives and works in Buchanan, the capital City of Grand Bassa County. It is located by the sea and is well known for its beaches and delicious fish. Many logging companies are also based in the city. Residents love eating fufu, cassava based dough typically eaten with soup or sauce. Most people in the city are Bassa speakers, one of the indigenous languages of Liberia.

For the past three years Oretha has had a table business which sells fresh fish. She works from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and her greatest business challenge is low income. Oretha intends to use the loan to buy more fresh fish to resell. She hopes to one day own a house.

Oretha wants to thank Kiva lenders in advance for their help.
