Vald´z Group
In this Group: Eliud, Apolonio, Maria
The Vald'z Group is made up of three members who are related and live in the same community. This community's largest festival is when they celebrate Saint Anthony on June 13. Apolonio is 45 years old. He has been married for some time to Francisca. Together they started a family with six children, of which two are still dependent on the couple and are primary school students.

Apolonio has sold notions and sewing items for 20 years. He says of the beginning of his work: "I worked as an employee in a large business. I liked selling these items very much, and that was how I started the shop." This time he is asking for the loan to buy more sewing items, notions, and raw material for the production of the accessories he makes: very striking and pretty ribbons to adorn young girls' hair. He says that he never took a course to learn how to make the ribbons. He learned by practicing every day. His work is very good, and he takes great pains to ensure the girls' ribbons last a long time. Apolonio sells his items in the street markets and goes around to each corner in order to earn a little bit more. He likes dealing with people very much, so he makes an effort to provide very good service. The only difficulty is when the authorities don't let him sell at the street markets; in the majority of the places where he sells, they demand a fee in order to be able to work. Despite this, Apolonio likes to make his notions and to have the necessary tools, but it is also necessary to take some courses to learn to make other accessories. The group is very grateful to VisionFund and Kiva for the opportunity to receive a loan since the three of them can continue investing in their economic activities. Eliud will invest in his mechanic shop and María will buy corn for selling tortillas.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
