Teresa is a 37 year old married woman and the mother of three children. She is in charge of the home and is a farmer. She has 6 years of primary education but couldn't continue because her parents couldn't support her economically. They taught her to work with the land and very early in her life she learned how to raise corn, beans and rice, but was most dedicated to coffee. This business has been done through generations in her family and is a tradition that has been the medium of income for her and to sustain her children.

Now she has requested a loan from COMIXMUL to buy inputs to maintain her coffee plants, which can be vulnerable to pest exposure due to weather changes.

Her future plans are to cultivate a large area of land to be able to generate income for her home and her family, and also to be able to reinvest in her plants, giving them more detailed, better and more secure care. Her dream is to see her children graduate from the university and be able to suppor them until the end when they achieve their dreams and goals.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
