Miguel
Miguel is a married 60 year old man with seven children. He has been working in the fields since he was 12 years old. His parents taught him to be a farmer and this is why today he is very knowledgeable and has had much experience since he began his work in farming. His father taught him farming in order for him to be able to earn an honorable living and help his family to succeed.

He purchases his agricultural supplies - fertilizers, herbicides and fungicides that are necessary for planting basic grains - in a town that takes him 15 minutes to get to by pickup truck.

He is seeking a loan from Fundación Campo in order to buy 6 quintals of fertilizer, 2 bags of corn seed and fungicide to control the pests and diseases that attack corn fields. With the support provided to the customer, he will purchase the fertilizer needed to cultivate 21,000 square meters of corn with the goal of increasing his production and generating a higher income when selling the produce he has obtained.

With this loan he will have the opportunity to cultivate a larger amount of grain and thus generate a greater surplus than he currently obtains in order to sell it and obtain a higher income at the end of the harvest. He plans to diversify the production that he currently manages in order to obtain new sources of income and to help his family to get ahead.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of a CrediCampo project to help rural farmers living in extreme poverty plant basic grains to feed their families. Excess product is sold on the local market. These loans are smaller than the typical loans offered by this field partner, and guarantee requirements are also reduced. Individuals who receive this type of loan also get access to technical assistance, information on good environmental practices and increased access to farm inputs like fertilizer. This is considered a high risk loan due to the population and loan purpose, and CrediCampo is one of the very few institutions in El Salvador willing to working with these farmers.
