Laira, 51, is married with one child. She resides in Puntod, Lopez Jaena, Misamis Occidental, Philippines.
To earn a living, Laira has sold fish in the market for 20 years. Her husband does the fishing, and she sells a portion of his catch in their local community.
Laira has borrowed 5,500 Philippine pesos through the Gata Daku Multi-purpose Cooperative to buy new fishing nets. She will save a portion of her profits to acquire a new pump boat for the business.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
