Thai, age 53, is the breadwinner for an extended family consisting of 10 children, three of whom are in school. He is a rice farmer. For many years, he has grown rice on three hectares of farmland to earn an income, and he also plants cassava and grows rubber trees. The agribusiness brings him about 29,000 KHR per day.
This will be Thai's first loan cycle with Kiva partner VisionFund. He is requesting a loan in the amount of 2,000,000 KHR in order to buy rubber tree seedlings for planting.
He hopes to generate more income to support his family and to marry off all of his children.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
