A villager from Kampong Cham Province, Chen is 45 years old and lives with her three children. Her two daughters are still in school, and the third is a farmer. To deal with the daily cost of living, she grows cassava on two hectares of farmland. She has had in this business for 25 years, earning about 38,000 KHR per day.
This is Chen's first loan cycle as a client of VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). Now she is applying for 2,000,000 KHR to buy pesticides for her farmland and to pay for labor fees for plowing the field. She hopes that she can get high crop yield from her farming, which will help her achieve a better standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
