A citizen from Sa Ang district of Kandal province, Cheng is 47 years old and a mother of five children. The main source of income for her family is from edible arum on two hectares of land. Cheng has been engaged in her current business for 24 years.
With this new loan, she is a second-time borrower with VisionFund Cambodia (Kiva’s partner). After the original loan that she has fully repaid, she has maintained a good living condition for her family and wants to build a decent house for her children.
Now, she takes a new loan to buy good arum seedlings and fertilizer for the upcoming planting season. Moreover, she will spend a portion of the loan to dig a well and to buy a water pump for her cash-crop. She hopes to gain more income, so that she can keep her children in school.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
