Tatjana
Tatjana is a 26-year-old married mother of one baby who is 3 months old. She, her husband and their baby live in a minority community in the southern part of Kosovo. Tatjana works in a kindergarten and her husband works in the municipality. They now have their own family and home and the house's exterior needs some refurbishing.

The money they generate together is still not enough for them to perform the renovations needed for the house. This is the first time that Tatjana is requesting a loan and it is so that she may be able to refurbish her house.

She and her husband feel it is very important to refurbish their house since the cost of electricity is very high and it will save costs on heating in the winter.

Since this loan will help improve their living conditions and save them money on utility costs, this loan will provide her family with better living conditions and they will be able to save some money to ensure their financial security. She is very happy for this opportunity and she thanks all of the lenders!

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
