Janet is a 46-year-old widow with three children who are in school. She is a very hard-working and resourceful mother. She is a retailer of charcoal in her neighborhood. Charcoal is a very popular source of energy for cooking in almost all the traditional Ghanaian homes. Janet obtains her supply of charcoal from the surrounding villages of Koforidua and retails them to her customers. She wants to use the loan to buy bulk supply of charcoal to retail to her customers. She hopes to increase her savings to pay for her children’s educational fees. She belongs to the community group called “Nyame ye odo” (God is love) Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee for one another as a social collateral to repay the loan.
