Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,775 helped a member to buy wool.

Nuevas Amigas De Viacha Group's story

The “Nuevas Amigas de Viacha” communal bank will start the fifth cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Cascada Focal Center. It has seven members led by a governing board presided over by Flora. The communal bank members carry out a variety of businesses among which are: blanket weaving, construction worker helper, turnover sales and neighborhood store.

The loan they’ll take out will benefit small micro businesswomen like Flora. She indicates that this is the first time she’s joined Pro Mujer having been invited by an institution’s promoter that visited her at home. She currently has a blanket weaving business. She makes it known that she started this business on her own initiative having learned to weave from her mother.

The loan she’ll take out now is to increase capital. She will buy wool from supply firms and after the manufacture will sell them in her sales space. This way of working allows her to generate income to support her family since she’s single and has a daughter. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes the health area, the loans, the savings and the get-togethers with the other members.
