A loan of $1,250 helped to buy manure and fertilisers for her coffee plants.

Maria Maribel's story

María is 27 years old and completed up to the end of sixth grade at primary school. María works in farming, growing beans and corn, alongside her husband. The couple has four children, two of whom are in school; one is at nursery and the youngest is not yet old enough for school. María has been working in farming and growing coffee for over eight years. She learned this trade from her parents, who were farmers all their lives. They earned a living growing corn and beans. María bought her land after a lot of effort, hard work and dedication. The plot is a kilometre from the family home and María and her husband arrive there by foot.

María is currently applying for a loan in order to buy fertiliser, manure and other supplies to maintain her coffee plants, which are her only source of income to support the family.

María's future plan is to buy more plots of land so as to continue to grow crops. As a mother, her dream is to see her children have better living conditions and for the them to have more opportunities so that, later, they can be better off.
