Teofilo
Teófilo lives in a common law relationship. He’s 79-years-old and lives with his wife and children. He intends to use the loan to buy manure and seeds to improve his pasture. He’s been working raising cattle for several years now and he thinks that making these improvements to his land is a good idea. His goal is to improve it so that his animals will have better feeding conditions so he can get them ready for sale sooner. This is his first Fudecosur loan. He’s had no previous loans from state banks and Fudecosur offered the best terms and a much lower interest rate.

More information about this loan

FUDECOSUR works in one of the poorest regions of Costa Rica, where microfinance institutions (MFIs) are scarce or have a hard time keeping up with demand for small loans. By providing mostly agricultural loans, FUDECOSUR reaches rural borrowers that many MFIs consider to be too risky. However, this has also made it more difficult for the organization to find stable sources of capital to lend. Kiva's flexible, risk-tolerant capital plays a critical role in helping FUDECOSUR grow its portfolio and support even more borrowers.
