Emine
Emine is 45 years-old, married and doesn't have any children. She and her husband live in one of the minority communities in Kosovo. Her husband works as a taxi driver and Emine is a housewife staying at home during the day since she likes to maintain a beautiful home. She always dreamed that she would have better living conditions but her husband’s salary is not enough to make any changes to her house. Her house is very old, especially the doors and windows.

Emine is asking for a loan for the first time in order to change the doors and windows. This loan will help Emine to reach and attain her dream. Her goal is to find a job and to be able to contribute to her family, which she hopes will grow in the future as she would love to have children. She thanks all Kiva lenders and very much appreciates everyone’s support!

Additional Information

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
