Sokhom, 46, lives in a rural village of the Kampong Cham province’s Ponhea Krek district. She is the married mother of two children, all of whom are dependent on her and still in school. Her family’s income comes from leasing a rice paddy of 6 hectares. She has been in this business years to make a living for 25 years. From this business, she can earn about 75,000 KHR per day.
Sokhom has been with VisionFund for one cycle and she completely repaid the first loan. With the loan from VisionFund, she successfully supported her living. She is now applying for another loan of 4,000,000 KHR, which she will use to pay for plowing the paddy field. With this loan, she hopes to extend her farmland to increase her business, thereby earning more income to fulfill her dream of opening a new grocery business.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
