Melikelio is a 35-year-old single woman. She bakes and sells pancakes and donuts in her community to earn a living. This is the first time that she has decided to operate her hobby as a business. Melikelio needs a loan to purchase ingredients and utensils. She plans to use her profits to improve her business and to help support her family. Melikelio is a new member of SPBD since April this year, 2013.
South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) improves conditions for families living in poverty by providing accessible credit, training, and guidance to help them start, grow and maintain micro-businesses, build assets, finance home improvements, and afford to educate their children. 99% of SPBD’s loans go to women, who can borrow in groups to guarantee one another rather than put up collateral.
