Maria Erlinda
María Erlinda is a 33-year old woman, married with three school-aged children. A niece also lives with the family and helps with household and farm chores just like the rest of her children. Ever since she was a young girl María has helped in the fields, continuing a family tradition passed down through the generations. Her parents taught her about farming while she was still a child.

The land that María and her family farm came to her through an inheritance and money that remained after reinvesting in their coffee crop. It is located about 45 minutes from their house by vehicle, a journey they make daily.

María is seeking a loan to buy fertilizer and other supplies to improve their crops and ensure they have a viable harvest to sell. Her goal is to have the best harvest in the area so as to attract customers and sell all that is produced. Her dreams are to help her children get ahead by providing them with a good education so they can overcome easily and safely the challenges in their lives.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
