Silvia
Silvia, 33, is divorced and lives with her mother and children. With the loan, she hopes to buy fertilizers, fumigation and also hire laborers. She would like to care for her coffee plantations so they don't suffer any damage that may cause her to lose production and that way generate more income for her family. She doesn't have the capital, the recourses or the means to get the money she needs to make these purchases, so she's soliciting a loan. This is her first loan with FUDECOSUR. She's never had a loan with a state bank, but she's able to get one with FUDECOSUR more easily and at a much lower interest rate...

More information about this loan

FUDECOSUR works in one of the poorest regions of Costa Rica, where microfinance institutions (MFIs) are scarce or have a hard time keeping up with demand for small loans. By providing mostly agricultural loans, FUDECOSUR reaches rural borrowers that many MFIs consider to be too risky. However, this has also made it more difficult for the organization to find stable sources of capital to lend. Kiva's flexible, risk-tolerant capital plays a critical role in helping FUDECOSUR grow its portfolio and support even more borrowers.
