Carmen is from the city of Estelí, a city which is located in the north of Nicaragua and known as the 'tobacco capital'. She is 58 years old, single, and has three children who all live independently.

Carmen currently works as a production manager in a cigar factory. She has been in this job for ten years and uses her salary to cover her household expenses and support her mother who is very elderly and has health problems.

Carmen will use her loan to buy medicines and pay for some medical checkups for her mother. She is grateful to Kiva for their support because it will enable her to buy medicine and pay for medical checkups. Using her income alone, it would be very difficult to cover her family member's high health expenses.
