Mariam lives in Mombasa, Kenya. She is married with three children. Two of the three attend school. Mariam, 31, has been selling charcoal for the last four years. She also owns a motorbike to transport people for an income.
She learned of Milango through friends and now she seeks a loan of 41,900 Kenya shillings to buy 10 sacks of charcoal as stock. Her ambition is to expand and open other branches of the business. The challenge she faces is during the rainy season charcoal is very expensive, which leads to really high prices. She thinks accessing these loans should be made paperless. She doesn’t enjoy filling out these forms.
