A loan of $275 helped to purchase an increased amount of maize for preparing kenkey to sell.

Adwowa's story

Although she received no formal education, Adwowa is an entrepreneur. She prepares and sells ‘kenkey’ (a traditional Ghanaian dish made from corn dough and wrapped in banana leaves). She can be found selling kenkey in Apewosika (near Cape Coast). She has been involved in this enterprise for one year. Adwowa is married and has five children. Her husband works as a farmer. The proceeds from her kenkey business normally go towards helping her husband to cover the family’s general expenses and to pay their children’s school fees.

Adwowa will use the loan to purchase an increased amount of maize, which will enable her to improve her overall sales. With the new profits from her expanded business, Adwowa plans to diversify the kinds of products that she sells, thus adapting to changing customer preferences.
