A widowed mother of four children living in Sa Ang district of Kandal province, Yorn is 38 years old and a vendor who sells sticky rice sweet dumplings, a Vietnamese dessert consisting of balls made from mung bean paste wrapped in a shell made of glutinous rice flour. This is a single business that she has had for 18 years. Yorn has been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) for the past two cycles. She has fully repaid her past loan and has used it wisely to support her business. Now, she is seeking a new loan to buy ingredient including fragrant rice, coconut, and sesame to make more desserts for resale. She hopes that she can make more profit from her current business so she can improve her lifestyle.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
