Aurora is 44 years old, is single, and has two children in school. She is a member of the new group "Las estrellitas" (little stars), which is made up of 7 hard-working and entrepreneurial members. Aurora has dedicated herself for the past 31 years to caring for people in their old age. From the time she was very young she had to work to help her parents and siblings since they could not count on a stable income. Currently she lives with her parents. Rosa is the only income earner in her family. In her free time she fixes gas stoves. Her loan will be invested in the purchase of parts for gas stoves and also to purchase school uniforms for her children. Her greatest desire is to see her children become professionals. This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
