Rokiyas lives in a rural area of Kampong Cham province, Dambae district. She has five children. Three of them are still in school and the remaining two have their own occupations as paid-workers. Rokiyas earns a living by farming one hectare of cassava and a half hectare of rubber trees. To help her to earn extra income, her husband purchases cows for resale.

This is Rokiyas's first time applying for a loan from VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. Rokiyas’s group consists of two female members including her. As the group leader, she will use her loan portion to buy fertilizer, plow her farmland, and pay for labor. She hopes to earn more income so as she can have better living conditions and keep her children in school.

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
