Rita is 41-year-old widow who has four children and lives in Cabungaan, Clarin, Misamis Occidental. She has a farm planting and harvesting bananas for sale. In 2009, she joined GDMPC and gained access to microfinance services; she is now requesting 7,500 Philippine Pesos (PHP) to purchase fertilizer such as manure. She plans to cultivate the farm like under cropping in order to gather additional income for the future of the family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
