Irene is a Kubo Financiero client. This is her story.
"My name is Irene, and I am 42 years old. I am married and have 3 sons, but only one is dependent on me. I have been working in retail for the last three years, and decided to open a flower shop because my son was working in the same field. The slogan for my shop is 'good quality and good service.' I make bouquets for weddings and Quinceaniera [15-year-old coming of age] birthday parties. I also make centerpieces for parties and pedestals, and all types of flower arrangements. I will use this loan to buy a computer, because I want to have better control of my business. I will also buy some counters and accessories to improve the image of my store.
My biggest accomplishment is providing a good life for my family, buying a car and buying furniture for my house."
Kubo.financiero is a regulated microfinance institution that provides accessible and affordable loans to borrowers in Mexico. Its online banking platform and other innovations enable Kubo to charge interest rates that are much lower than the average for MFIs in Mexico. By doing business in a new way -- leveraging technology and customized risk profiles -- the organization is able to support microfinance clients throughout the country. With funds from Kiva lenders, Kubo is able to expand its lending network even further, reach riskier clients who have less credit history, decrease interest rates for borrowers, and scale its service area.
