The communal association "Jardín de Rosas" is starting its twelfth cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Centro Focal de Los Andes. The businesses of its members are varied and include a grocery store, blanket knitting, and the sale of "salchipapas" (mix of sliced pan-fried beef sausages and french fries), baby clothes, socks and cosmetics.

The loan requested will benefit small microentrepreneurs, among which is Edelberta. She has been with Pro Mujer for several years and joined after being invited by some friends that were already members of the institution. She currently runs a business selling baby clothes. She learned from her aunt and then decided to start her own company.

She will use the loan to buy stock (wool and baby clothes) in bulk from the trade shows to sell later in her store. This is how she makes a living and brings resources to her household, as she's married and has three children.

When asked why she likes Pro Mujer, she replies that she likes the savings, the loans, the training and the health area.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
