The “Kamsap Kaquini” communal bank will start its fourth cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Panamericana Focal Center. It has 8 members led by a governing board with Aleida as its secretary. The communal bank members carry out a variety of businesses among which are: milk sales, blanket weaving, shoe heel sales, American clothes sales, blended fruit and gelatin treat sales and food sales.

The loan they’ll take out will benefit small micro-business women like Aleida. She indicates that she’s been a member of Pro Mujer for three years having joined thanks to an invitation from her cousin who’s a member of the institution. She currently has a business selling food (Broaster-style chickens). She makes it known that she started this business years ago with support from her family and currently has her own business.

The loan she’ll take out now is to buy equipment (purchase a cooler) that she’ll buy from stores and then set up at home. This way of working makes it possible for her to generate resources to support her home the best possible way since she’s single living with her parents. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes the meetings.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
