The communal bank Las Rosas De Guadalupe is starting its first cycle with Pro Mujer. It belongs to the regional office of Santiago II and comprises six members. Niva is the President of their board of directors. The businesses run by the members of this communal bank are varied. They include making decorations, selling desserts and plantains, selling filling, selling vegetables and potatoes, and selling pork rinds.

The loan they are requesting will benefit this group of small businesswomen, of which Nivia is a member. She says she joined Pro Mujer six months ago through an adviser of the institution who went to see her at her house and invited her. She currently has a business selling party decorations, which she started with her mother's help over ten years ago.

The loan she is now requesting will be used to increase capital. She will purchase foam from the markets in the city of El Alto in order to make decorations and then sell them in her place of business. Working this way allows her to generate resources to support her household as much as possible, since she is married and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replies that she enjoys the loans and the trainings.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
