Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $500 helped to buy fertilizer, herbicide, insecticide, and pesticide, and to prepare the land.

Raul's story

Raúl lives with his family, his wife and four children, who are 15, 16, 18, and 20 years old. He does not have family members abroad. He is a farmer and also a miller. He learned the work from the time he was young, and he is thinking of putting in his own mill in order to earn more income. The loan he needs will allow him to invest in two manzanas of land (a manzana is about 7000 square meters) in order to plant pipián (a type of squash), for which he will buy fertilizer, herbicide, insecticide, and pesticide, and prepare the land. This will help him to earn more income for his family. One of the risks would be climate change. His dream is to earn more income and expand his house.
