Please meet 35-year-old Layee from St. Paul in Liberia. St. Paul is home to the oldest market in Liberia and is known for their fish due to its location by the sea. It is a suburb located just outside Monrovia, past the Freeport. It is one of the poorer areas and you will often find its residents living in sub-standard housing.
Layee completed 12 grades and is married. His wife stays at home with their young child, who is 6 months old. He has one more child who is 12 years old and goes to school. They all live at home.
Layee owns his own gasoline station and has been selling gasoline for the past three years. He will use the loan proceeds to purchase petrol. On average, he works 15 hours a day. He started his business with money from his father. He transports his petrol by tanker. He cites the rainy season as his biggest challenge since he does not have a very good station.
