La Amistad Group
In this Group: Amelia Velia, Valeria Teodora, Soledad Jessica, Maria Antonia, Maruja, Norma Ofelia
The “La Amistad” (Friendship) group consists of six enterprising women who are starting the seventh cycle. María’s 38-year-old has a spouse and three children attending school. She’s been working knitting for several years and has been able to help her husband with expenses and with her children’s schooling. María sells the clothes she knits to clothes merchants. In her free time she caters festive events to order.

She will use the loan to buy yarn to make sweaters and gloves. Her greatest wish is to have a stand where she can sell her knitwear. María is first on the right.

The group is grateful to Kiva lenders for the loan granted. Valeria appears in the inserted photo above; she was unable to attend the meeting because of health issues.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
