Mary lives in Sinkor, in Montserrado County, whose living conditions are almost like the capital city of Liberia. It is well-known as the best laid-out place in Liberia. Mary is 46 years old. She is a widow, with eight children aged between 29 and 10. Only two are presently in school and living at home.
For the past ten years, Mary has been selling dried fish in the community market. She started this business with help from her husband and she learned this way of selling from her mother. She spends eight hours with her business and, most of the time, she uses a taxi to get her goods to her table. She said about herself, "I am business-minded and I like my business because it gives me more profit."
Mary is requesting a loan to buy more dried fish, to expand her sales. She wants to get more money to educate her children.
