Leonidas is a member of the group called Fe y Esperanza Group 4, located in the city of Hato Mayor. This is her ninth loan, which she will use to improve her house. She has had her business for around four years. Since then she has paid back all her loans and expanded her business. After her last loan, which she invested in her business, she realized the need to improve her home.

Leonidas is a single woman, and she runs a beauty salon. This small business has given her enough income to provide for herself and to help her family. She is receiving a housing loan to improve her home by building an extra room, which she will build with a concrete block structure and zinc and wood for the roof.

Esperanza International runs a program for their good clients who are reliable in paying back their loans, who have fulfilled the commitment to grow their business and who have shown fidelity in their groups. This allows them to take out a loan to improve the structure of their house at the same time as running their business and attending their group meetings.

Leonidas thanks God, Esperanza International and all of you for this opportunity. In her name and that of her family, she thanks all of you for your support!

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
