Kalsoom's Group
In this Group: Kalsoom, Balqees
Kalsoom is a 37-year-old married woman with three children. She lives in Lahore, Pakistan.

Kalsoom’s husband owns a cosmetics shop, which is the family’s only source of income. Because his monthly income is inadequate to meet the family’s needs, they live in miserable conditions.

The shop is in need of a variety of products including hairbrushes and dyes, lipsticks, nail polish, etc. to sell. However, due to the family’s lack of money it’s difficult to make these purchases. Therefore, as a member of a two-person group Kalsoom is applying for a 65,000 PKR loan through Kiva's partner BRAC Pakistan to buy needed stock for her husband's shop.

Kalsoom is very grateful to Kiva and BRAC Pakistan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
