Rose lives in the Nkubu region of Eastern Kenya. This region is known for its high production and it is located near the slopes of Mount Kenya. Rose is married and has four children, all of whom go to school.
She has practiced farming for nine years. Her source of income comes from farming and producing milk, tea leaves, maize, avocados and vegetables as well as operating a hotel business.
Rose wants to purchase a water tank for her farm, so she has requested a loan of KES 30,000 from Juhudi Kilimo. This loan will help her to improve her children's quality of education. She intends to purchase at least an acre of land for irrigation. The major challenge she faces is poor weather conditions.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
