Fernanda is a 61-year-old widow with two children living in Labuyo, Tangub City. To support her children, she plants and harvests bananas on her own farm, earning an income of 5,000 PHP monthly. In 2010, she joined GDMPC micro credit to gain access to micro finance. She then borrowed 8,000 PHP to pay for the weeding maintenance labor cost for her farm to be improved. In the future, she plans to cultivate a vacant area to double her income and possibly prepare better living conditions for her children.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
