Living in a rural area located in the Phnom Prek district of Battambang province, Sokun is 37 years old and married. To make a living, he has been planting corn for almost seven years. The current business earns him about 50,000 KHR per day but he can manage to save about 20,000 KHR after deducting daily expenses.
Sokun received his first loan one cycle ago and he completely paid back the loan. The past loan from VisionFund has helped his family significantly improve their living and allow them to buy a plot of farmland. He is now asking for another loan of 1,500,000 KHR to buy fertilizer and pesticides for his farmland. He hopes to increase his crop yields to improve his family’s living standard.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
