Sara
Age 27 and the mother of two dependent children, Sara is a resident of Kror Kor district of Pursat Province. The two-and-a-half hectares of rice farming are the main source of her family's income. Her husband also helps her to earn extra income by working for others for a fee. The current business has earned her about 30,000 KHR per day.

Including this loan, she is in the fifth cycle loan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She, after the successful loan that she has fully repaid, feels confident that she can upgrade her lifestyle in a good manner. For this cycle, she is applying for 2,000,000 KHR in order to renovate her house. She highly hopes this loan will support her house construction on time.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
