Nilda is 51 years old and married with two children. She lives in Poblacion 4, Clarin, Misamis Occidental. To earn a living, she owns and operates a farm, planting and harvesting rice for sale. She has been doing this business for five years. In 2008, she joined GDMPC Microcredit to gain access to microfinance, and she is now requesting 54,000 PHP (Philippines pesos) to purchase fertilizer such as manure. She plans to cultivate her vacant farm area to generate additional income to improve the general living conditions of her family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
