In her hometown of Alexandria, Louisiana, Clarese owns a full-service beauty parlor, where her clients can enjoy not just a style and a cut, but after the help of an Accion Texas Inc. loan, a massage as well.
It was a long-time goal for Clarese to open a shop of her own. Styling hair since she was 12 years old, Clarese received her cosmetology license in 2003, when she was 23. Clarese finally opened her one-of-a-kind parlor as the opportunity presented itself in 2011.
The parlor offers two rooms, one for chemical-free, natural hair treatment, and the other for traditional barber shop services, which also includes the newly added massage bed. Clarese also provides her clients with healthy beverages and snacks.
With the added service, Clarese expects business to grow enough that she plans to hire four employees in a month. After receiving her Accion loan, she hired two employees, one to offer massages.
Clarese was also able to purchase a barber’s chair, towels and a towel steamer, an aromatherapy machine, oils and sheets.
