A 56-year-old mother of five children, Sou is a farmer from Pursat Province. She is a village chief, and also manages a rice farm and pig-raising business for extra income. She has been with this business since she was 22 years old and it is currently generating 22,700 KHR per day for her. Sou's previous loan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) was her first and she has fully repaid it. Thanks to the first loan, her living condition is better than before.
Now, she is applying for a new loan of 4,000,000 KHR in order to pay to plow her farmland. She hopes that she can grow her rice on time and earn more income.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
