Yeang, a 57 year-old mother of five children, is a local rice farmer on two hectares in Kampong Cham Province’s Prey Chhor district, where her residential area is. This is the only business that she owns and she has been with it for 35 years.
Yeang has been with VisionFund (Kiva’s parnter) for the past four cycles and her previous loans, which she has fully repaid, have supported her business promptly and returned her a decent income with which to upgrade her lifestyle. Now, she is applying for a new loan in order to purchase rice seed, potash, and insecticide, and to pay for labor costs. She sincerely hopes to increase her income, which would improve her business and her living conditions.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
